How do you know which dog food to buy?
What is Highly Digestible Protein?
By using controlled enzymatic hydrolysis, proteins can be digested into small peptides (this is the same process as occurs naturally in the digestive tract). This increases the digestibility & bioavailability of the protein, improves palatability and produces protein with low allergenic potential. We are looking at embedding this technique as part of our manufacturing process once we have completed all of the necessary research.
Why dog food isn’t just ‘dog food’!
We want to bring you the very best in pet nutrition… In the past decade, the life expectancy of a dog has reduced by 7-9 years! We want to see dogs living longer fuller lives, maintaining their health and vitality in to old age and we want you to have your dog for as long as possible. There is no excuse for poor dog nutrition… After all, you only get out what you put in right?
How is our dog food made?
The Jackson’s UK journey begins with our trusted farms and fisheries, where we collect only the finest fresh meats and fish, providing our pack with provenance and full traceability.
Using our own refrigerated transport to maintain the highest quality conditions, we collect the meats and bring them back to our production site in the beautiful northern countryside, where they undergo extensive quality testing before being blended in to our succulent size and life stage appropriate recipes.
In our meat kitchen, we gently cook each meat at circa 82ºC to protect the proteins and ensure maximum digestibility and nutritional value. With the use of world-leading technology, we are also able to reduce the moisture content of the freshly prepared meat and include increasingly high amounts of fresh meat into Jackson’s UK recipes. In addition, we are also able to extract high-quality oils from our fresh ingredients - ingredients of known provenance.
We understand that pets know fresh is best; that’s why fresh meat is our passion. Using our unique process, we develop recipes that are truly unique in the marketplace, boasting the highest levels of fresh meat inclusion and providing your pets with the most flavoursome and nutritionally beneficial meal time.
Why is breed size so important?
Dogs grow at different rates, have different adult target weights and different energy requirements, so a one size fits all approach is definitely not the one to adopt. Jackson’s UK understands these complexities, so we have designed size appropriate recipes that consider all of these factors.
Puppy Food Recipes
Puppies require an appropriately high level of protein to support growth and development through this crucial phase in life. This is usually higher than an adult’s requirement, as this is the fastest development phase within a dog’s lifetime. During this phase, they also require an appropriate and controlled Calcium and Phosphorus level to ensure correct skeletal development, which is especially important for large breed puppies.
Adult Dog Food Recipes
Our Adult Dog recipes are formulated to be complete and balanced to provide all the nutrients that a dog needs to live a healthy and happy life. They are formulated using various combinations of highly digestible proteins, carbohydrates and functional ingredients. There are plenty of size and breed appropriate delicious recipes available.
Small Dog Food Recipes
Small breeds have a faster metabolic rate compare to large breeds meaning that they have much higher energy requirements per kilogram of body weight. Therefore, our Small Breed recipes are formulated to have a higher calorie content that is nutrient-dense which is packed into a tiny kibble specifically designed to suit smaller mouths.
Large Dog Food Recipes
Our large breed recipes are nutritionally complete and balanced and come in a larger kibble size to promote chewing and prevent gorging or fast food consumption, which could lead to bloating and digestive upset. The size and weight of large breed dogs can put more strain on their joints, so we’ve added a combination of glucosamine, chondroitin & methylsulfonylmethane to support cartilage metabolism and help maintain healthy joints.
Senior Dog Food Recipes
Senior recipes are designed to be suitable for those dogs over 7 years old. A senior diet is designed to help support the joints, have higher fibre content to help ‘keep things moving’ and have reduced energy content to help prevent weight gain in those golden years. A careful blend of Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM helps support cartilage for healthy joints. These recipes include L-Carnitine, an essential amino acid that can help maintain a healthy weight and lean muscle mass.
